Mid Stream

Crossing the river to distant shores
Warm waters seeping from reservoirs
standing midstream, caught up in the motion
Closing my eyes, hearing the ocean
Wishing waves could turn the tide
Nurturing seeds of flowers denied
Waters swirling around my feet
Stir memories of something sweet.

The Poet

The Poet’s goal: to fan the famished flame
A catalyst to boost immortal fame
One glowing ember separate from the rest
One proof you have not exhaled idle breath
Your words left on their lips beyond your death.
The Poet’s aim: to pierce one reader’s heart

Praying for Rain

Rain please trickle down and land
Flow softly, gently on this sand
Revive the growth that can’t be found
If only for another round.
The tree is lost, no way to leave
without the solace of reprieve.

Things That Sting

Sweet little bumble bee
Stripped of your wings
No longer the bearer
Of venomous stings
Now trapped by the beauty
Betrayed by the flower
I hold you, and heal you
Restoring your power
And you, in return
Will remember this thing
I do, just for you, and
Oh! Jesus! That stings.
Beware the attraction of those without wings
The weaker the heart, the more painful the stings.

Most Poetry

I really don’t like most poetry
It confounds and confuses me
For nothing is what it seems to be
I really don’t like most poetry.
Unless, of course, it speaks to me!

Immaculate Deception

Two eggs, resting side by side
One shell, in which two chicks reside.
One grew strong, as cells divided,
The other disappeared inside it.
Together, they grew as one, these two
Now so conjoined, that no one knew.

The innocent victims of nature’s flair
United, yet perfectly unaware,

Hide Out

Sunlight peeks through leaves of green
as skylight disappears
Surrounded by a wall of trees
a fortress soon appears
A great escape from frowns and sneers
the source of most unfounded fears.

The Golden Years?

The health profession should be immune
But I’m here to say it’s not
They’ll take until we’re facing ruin
In exchange for a comfy cot.
They’ll keep you fed and medicated
And while you’re happy and still  sedated
They’ll think of ways to keep you there
Until they’ve been overly compensated.

A Sudden Urge To Travel

Today I wish that I was free
To travel as I wish
To places I have never been
But know they do exist

I’d find the soft and gentle kiss
Of a salty ocean air

Counting Tips

Part of my job as an Activities Aide in a nursing home is serving the resident lunch in the main dining room. Although no money changes hands I leave there many days feeling richer for the experience.

Timeless Treasures

No flower is more beautiful
Than one that’s picked from youth
With tiny hands round broken stems
Whispering “Mommy, it for you”
No verse was ever written
That had so much to say
As the folded hearts with scribbles
Reading “Happy Mohes Day”
No words will ever fill my heart
With this happy kind of sad
Encircled with a crayon heart
“Your the best mom I [...]

As nature rages, they thumb through the pages
For a prophecy written in stone
But nature engages, as she has through the ages
In unforeseen rants of her own.

It comforts the soul, and enforces their goal
To portray it as something divine

A Poem Love

Green blades of broken grass littered the ground
with the motion of loving arms laying me down.
Warm indentations on soft tufts of green,
Moonlight illuminated passions unseen.

Tall trees above us, that creaked as they swayed
in the breeze of the moment, time swept us away.

Trapped

Which way to go to find the end
Where strands of gold lie waiting
So many tangled threads to tend
The spider squirms, imprisoned within
The fortress of its own fabrication.
