A flower in the open field
Grows wild for all to see.
A flower growing on the wall
Seeks support as it grows tall
And clings to some degree.
The slightest rupture in the fence
Where sunlight trickles through
Calls the flower through the crack
Yet blossoms still, if you look back
From another’s point of view.

Mummy Dearest

Some day I shall travel
to Egypt, just for fun
and wrap myself in linen
as though I were ‘the one’
to be preserved and mummified
and then put on display
professionally pickled and petrified
then saved for a rainy day.

The sun arrives
to melt the shade
and gather
morning dew.
A single drop
cascading
like a teardrop
overdue.

He follows me
like a lost child
alone in the world
in need of a friend
Sometimes his eyes
reveal the man
sick and dying
but a man nonetheless
He tells me
he won’t be here
much longer
All those years
of indulgence
have finally
caught up with him
although it doesn’t show
on the outside
He wanders alone
in a sterile environment
and he dies
a little more each day
he looks for me often
For [...]
No Such Magic

You can try with all your might
To tell a fork that it’s a ladle
And it may try to bend and form
Itself into a cradle
But tines will keep appearing

Bits of blue still peeking through
The glowing shades of green
The shadows play as tall trees sway
In our paradise pristine
The humming bird is calmly lured
To subtle shades of red
I whisper softly in your ear
Hey you, let’s go to bed.

I look across the grassy knoll
At one elusive little troll
Who looks at me as if I know
In which direction he should go.
We stare at one another, lost
Across the dense and fertile moss
And just when we start having fun
The little troll turns tail and runs.
I fear the day is drawing nigh
Beneath a promised summer sky
When sadly [...]

Being a newspaper veteran I have seen some interesting typos over the years. I love typos in the newspaper. For one thing it shows they’re human and sometimes it’s the only thing amidst the bad news that makes you laugh for a moment and dilutes all the horror-filled headlines. Some of my favorites:
….12 uninformed police [...]
Voids

Too often we forget the day
wasting precious ticks
Looking for a better way
our painful voids to fix.
Every heart must have its voids
a cache for newfound treasure
A place to store a needed friend
and memories, forever.
A heart that’s blessed with empty space
Has saved, for you, a special place.
