How Sweet the Sorrow

If you had known the fate that day would hold
The future, that would in its wake, unfold
Would you have chosen still to wander in
And find yourself somewhere you’d never been?
Or simply walked away and missed the chance
To hear the song that caused your heart to dance.
No explanation ever will suffice,
A twist of fate that mingled [...]

Someone’s Gotta Do It

death comes knocking
at the door
pain and suffering
are no more
relations come
and quickly flee
leaving death
alone with me
tired eyes
impending doom
shallow breaths
a sterile room
compassion whispers
“go to sleep,
seeds you’ve planted
now you’ll reap”
a hand is held
now cold and frail
awaiting death
the final nail
as one last sigh
escaped your lips
death’s grip released
my fingertips.

When A Child Cries

The moon will hide its face behind its glow,
ashamed to light the way or just stand by.
Humanity will suffer, justly so
For every time a child is made to cry.
A just and fair reward we must impart,
for those who prey on innocence and trust.
For every child who knows a broken heart,
a penalty of death is ‘barely’ [...]

Frustration

I put my faith in, blindly
and did my part as such
Then love snuck up behind me
and stole my only crutch
And now I wander aimlessly
completely out of touch.

The More Things Change…

Does not the tree shed withered leaves
Yet grace the keepers lawn
Does not the flower release new seeds
Then obligingly move on
Does not the love, if love at all
Gain strength from what has passed
Though seasons change, the tree remains
Only leaves refuse to last.

Random thoughts

Being a poet isn’t something you do
But rather, it’s something you are.
A wise man says what he has thought about
while a fool thinks about what he has said.
Deprivation of knowledge makes way for fools.
…and over by the twisted tree, is a shady spot
that use to be, in another world, another time,
a favorite place of mine.
Above [...]

Death After Life

I once thought heaven a place to go
a goal with a hefty price
but as I grew I came to know
that heaven is part of life.
And if you fail to capture it

A Little Piece of Heaven

A walk on the beach was the perfect ending to our trip to an outdoor wedding in Rhode Island last weekend. The weather was HOT, the air was HEAVY and the wedding was BEAUTIFUL! But the beach was HEAVENLY!

The Last Flower

She stood in awe of beauty
that caused her heart to speak,
weeds flourished in abundance
round this flower, so unique.
Her heart would have her sever ties
to hold it in her hand
her mind accepts that holding it
is not the wisest plan.
And so it grows, a single rose
secure within its thicket, but
she wonders… would the rose oppose
if she suddenly [...]

Blissful Rhyme

I walked along the shore today
the dwindling sands of time
I waded through the shallow bay
the sum of all my yesterdays
seeking moments claimed as mine.
A fraction of a second free
to chase some wayward dream
A glimpse of more than fantasy
that time has never given me
and never would it seemed.
Just one chance to answer YES!
sans reservation or doubt
A [...]

Silent Knights

Imprisoned by a cruel disease
Robbed of precious memories
Walking
Walking
Endlessly
Going nowhere repeatedly.
Suddenly silenced, deprived of words
Voices hushed no longer heard
Staring
Staring
A haunting peer
Saying nothing and loud and clear.
Eyes that search for help in vain
Still filled with long forgotten pain
Searching
Searching
In despair
Seeing nothing everywhere.
Hands that dried their children’s tears
Now strangers to their needs and fears
Holding
Holding
Family ties
Now forgotten, vaporized.
Hour by hour, [...]

The Cat Didn’t Do It!

Upon a branch within a fold of leaves
The Robin sits and silently she grieves
As quickly as the turning of the tide
The mighty hawk has swallowed up her pride
The trees are filled with anger loud and shrill
The hawk waits patiently to claim its kill
Her victory has helped to save the day
As all the baby swallows [...]

New leaves glisten

the bird sits on
