Death by Chocolate
September 8, 2007 by Shirley Allard
Sometimes I see the world as a dark place.
A forsaken place.
A food factory where children go hungry.
A mountain of uncut stones with a shortage of gems.
A promise of heaven so distorted
that some are willing to create hell on earth to obtain it.
I see a country where people complain about their debt
for the luxuries others couldn’t buy if they wanted to.
Where health care that is nonexistent for others
is simply ‘too expensive’ for us.
Where money rolls off the press and still those in need
know only a perpetual shortage of paper.
A world governed by a great candy bar factory
where everything is rolled together, sweetened, sugar coated
and packaged attractively before it’s sold.
And, worst of all…
I see us buying it!
Sorry, I read the ingredients!

And the chocolate is endless. There can be little wonder there are so many unhappy diabetics. Nice analogy… and, sadly, very true.
Note** Shirley, I think you need to check your site’s program. Twice now, when I’ve clicked to leave a reply on a poem, it’s put the comment on the topic posted immediately below… sorry.
I think what’s happening is that we usually find the comment link at the bottom of the article. On this template it is at the top with the title…strange but true. You’re not the first one to do that. I may just go back to my old template. It was easier to read anyway. If you go out of your way to comment, and you do, I don’t care where you put it…I’ll find it!
btw, thanks for the comment(s).
