Worth

Today it seems all I can do is cry
I don’t know why
There is no other way but compromise
I dry my eyes
And try to think of what is best for all
for it’s my call
I don’t know if it’s worth the price I pay
to save the day
When no one else is bothered by my plea
no one but [...]

Hearing Problems

Words are all we have at times
Sharp metaphors and playful rhymes
Speak volumes to the well-trained ear
With meaning blurred and so unclear
I wonder.
Are words intended as they’re read
Do I hear the same thing that you’ve said?
I feel the music, I cling to the vines
Am I adding notes between the lines?
I wonder.

Need

Hummingbirds and butterflies
Ladybugs and dragonflies
Shadows cast from autumn trees
Morning glories, bumble bees
The garden of simplicity
Is where I go to capture me.
Soothing music fills my head
Antique lace on feathered beds
Ocean air at 5 am and
Beaches walked from end to end
Alone with sweetly soothing dreams
Is where I look for me it seems.
An old stonewall, a ‘climbing’ tree
Sweet, [...]

Go Hillary!

A woman in the White House
A most intriguing thought
To think they’d think of giving up
This most prestigious spot!
To be ruled by the wisdom of weakness
And go willingly? I think not.
The checkbook is readily rendered
The health of the children entrusted
Disputes of sibling rivalry
Are left to the weaker to fuss with.
Running the castle, maintaining the calm
Dealing with [...]

Sticks & Stones

“Sticks and stones,
may break my bones
but names will never hurt me.”
A little rhyme, from olden time
to pacify our frailty.
Sticks and stones.
Our broken bones,
will quickly fuse together.
But hurtful names, of childhood games
leave scars that last forever.
I wonder who the genius was
that sat out to contrive
a way to justify a hurt
that lasts throughout our lives.

Pray As You Prey

The night was cool
The moon was round
Naked and writhing
On sacred ground.Bats and spiders
Decked the halls
As shadows danced
On murky walls.
Easy does it, slow and shy
Then suddenly, the pangs
An innocent, or so thought I
As she drenched her thirsty fangs
Beware the illusion of innocence
That lures you to your prey
You’ll often find a resilience
Be prepared to kneel and pray.

Where Do Angels Come From?

The power of wine and roses
can make an angel ‘appear’ to be one.
It takes a sparkle in your eye
to ever truly see one.
Suddenly, you realize
there’s something you’re without.
Something, without that sparkle,
you never knew about.
The sun is growing hotter
or could it just be you?
Moonbeams foster fantasies
most unlikely to come true.
An angel is for you to keep
But [...]

Sweet Nothings

If ever you find
you have nothing to say
just say it with flair
in a most unique way. Stretch out those syllables,
sneak in a rhyme,
and you’ll have said something
poetic in kind.
