Hearing Problems
October 23, 2007 by Shirley Allard
Words are all we have at times
Sharp metaphors and playful rhymes
Speak volumes to the well-trained ear
With meaning blurred and so unclear
I wonder.
Are words intended as they’re read
Do I hear the same thing that you’ve said?
I feel the music, I cling to the vines
Am I adding notes between the lines?
I wonder.

I think you’ve just identified the very reason some of us write… we’d like to think that the space between the lines often reveals as much or more than the text. As usual, very perceptive analysis…
being that all is consumed thru individual perspective I would say its a worthy wonder…
My son has a mild hearing loss… and for a minute, I thought this poem was going to be about an actual physical hearing problem (silly me lol ; ). I was pleasantly surprised to see the real meaning behind this, and how it applies to all of us… how we all have our unique “hearing problems”. I like that. Then, I couldn’t help but wonder how it might even apply to my son in an even more profound way ?? Talk about an “individual perspective”, eh?
