Shades of White
December 8, 2007 by Shirley Allard
With brush in hand and canvas primed
The masterpiece awaits me
I narrow my sights and broaden my mind
Allowing the canvas to paint me.
The starkness of newly primed linen
Should inspire a brush stroke or line
Dabbling with color, perspective and weight
Its blankness seeps into my mind
What hues would it choose to portray me
What depths of the shadows and light
The canvas has captured me clearly
A blank canvas in soft shades of white.

I would suggest that your canvas’ depiction of you is myopic at best. Its failure to portray you in both bright colors and symbiotic, contrasting, subdued hues shows a distinct lack of understanding of your essence. Your ’soft shades of white’ certainly exist underneath it all, but they should be portrayed as enhancement, not substance.
Did you know that white is actually all the colors combined into a whole?
Well, I guess I’ll have to take your word for it since you’re a professional, but I thought it was an absence of color, naïve layman that I am. That being the case, I guess I’m way off base with my first comment, which will surprise absolutely no one.
Wait, you’re both right! There, I settled that one.
See, I’m a middle child and there is a great concern that families are now having only one or two children because the middle children are the world’s peace keepers. When you’re not special as the first or the last you learn to negotiate I guess and settle for less. Hmmm…where did that come from?
Anyway, thanks! And Bob, I wrote this some time ago before I got my colors!
