Taking Chances

The bumble bee sits in my hand
And look, he does not quiver
While sweet Olivia’s childish look
As though an animated book
Approaches a curious shiver.
But Grammy, if he stings me now
Won’t that really, really hurt me?
And make me really, really mad
(Her face is growing long and sad)
At every single humble bumble bee?
It’s hard to say, my little [...]

Ocean View

The day was warm
an autumn thrill
as nature’s promise
whispered still.
Magic words
crossed distant seas
like silent waves
caressing trees.
Forsaken dreams
on wayward ships
consumed the warmth
of breathless lips.
The mind said go
the heart said stay
as wayward dreams
just sailed away.

Write On Q

Quaint, quiet quadrants
question quintessence.
Quixotic quests
quell qualifications quite quickly.
Quills quota
quells a quire quoting quirky quotes.
Questions?

The Beginning of the End

I pushed the button
and watched them go
twenty thousand reads, or so
a quite refreshing anesthetic
to finally retire from being Pathetic.

Mercury In Motion

Like mercury on a smooth steel plate
A solid illusion in fluid state
Rolling and flowing and lying in wait.
Once shattered and scattered to hell and back
Their holy illusions and pretenses crack
Revealing who’s dealing with a deck that is stacked.
Those self-appointed as God’s ‘holy men’
Abusing our children while condemning OUR sin
Are pardoned by demons that rule from [...]

My Sunshine

All the stars in the midnight sky
Are but candlelight in space
Compared to the light in your little eyes
And the innocent smile on your face.
God surely made you special
Like a rare exotic flower
His gift is in your sameness
The difference? A perception of ours.
You are truly a gift to all who take time
To stop and smell ALL [...]

Windy

The mighty wind is blowin gainst the walls
As drafty gusts meander down these halls
With power only nature can possess
It turns the mighty mill and lifts our dress
As hats go flying through the air off heads
The mighty force of wind is faced with dread
While down the road I watch the tall trees sway
Two pine trees dance [...]

Rambling

I think I’m having one of those days when I don’t want to be a poet anymore. God, why didn’t someone warn me what I was getting myself into.
Try telling someone that you’re a poet and watch their reaction. They immediately look away like you just told them you had the plague or something. Then [...]

Silent Heart Be Heard

Many years ago my sister bought the entire contents of a beautiful and very old two-story colonial house. I guess the new owners of the house saw it as junk and simply wanted it gone…at a price. Well, my sister kept the antiques and most probably got her investment back. The rest of it she [...]

MIA 2

My fingers are moving
The paper is stained
I’ve muttered and sputtered
I’ve cursed and complained
And now what is left
Seems I’ve covered it all
It’s a fight when you write
From a world that’s so small.

Joyful Noise

White noise
startles the air.
As shower songs of morn
intended to please covered ears
do not.

Moonlit Flight

I cannot give you inner strength that’s gone
I am, at best, a shoulder to lean on
I wish that I could will your fence to mend
And see you standing tall and proud, my friend
Cold shadows block your view and make you blind
To all the beauty captured by your rhyme
But all the rays of sunshine, when combined
Can’t [...]

Portrait of a Woman in a Large Hat
by Amedeo Modigliani
This is most entertaining.
Did I remember to turn the oven off?
Great show!
I hope my mascara is holding up.
Oh, beautiful move!
I must remember Bobby’s practice is tomorrow at four.

Now, that is a beautiful song.
I do hope my absence at work today didn’t cause too much confusion.

What? [...]

Breathe

Embrace that soft and gentle breeze
Let it dance across your skin
and cool the burning fire
that grows from deep within.
We rush to close the window
as though it were a sin
to open it, for just a bit
and dare to breathe life in.

Grandpa’s Barn

Grandpa’s barn once filled with life
now stands a vacant lot
rough and tumble timbered charm
a time that land forgot.
Around this sacred childhood place
grow fields of apple trees
the milking cows long since replaced
with busy honey bees.
Tending to and cleaning stalls
consumed my Grandpa’s day
lofty beams enticed our falls
to smells of new-mown hay.
He lived and breathed the rapture
of a [...]

to choose one or both
as cause or prevention

Go gently into blackest night
with strong unyielding force
Travel ever toward the light
through darkness and remorse
Reach beyond the past, it’s passed
though its memory’s ever present
To believe each day could be your last
makes a lifetime of them pleasant.
