My Sunshine
January 23, 2008 by Shirley Allard
All the stars in the midnight sky
Are but candlelight in space
Compared to the light in your little eyes
And the innocent smile on your face.
God surely made you special
Like a rare exotic flower
His gift is in your sameness
The difference? A perception of ours.
You are truly a gift to all who take time
To stop and smell ALL of life’s flowers!

Of all the beautiful thoughts I’ve seen you write, these may just be the prettiest. Bless you…
Thank you, Bob. I wrote this when he was 3 years old and he sat at the computer and read it to me! I was inspired by Dan’s column in the upcoming Word Catalyst to run it again. He is now 5 and doing just great. He’s a real sweetie and Grammy is really proud of him!
So cute! And Bob is right, your words sparkle like his smile.
wonderful writing for a great child, im glad you shared it with us. Children always put a smile on my face, so much joy.
Thanks guys. He makes me believe that autism can sometimes be a gift.
This brought tears to my eyes. Autism brings grey to them and rainbows to us, doesn’t it. Ali
Hi Ali, Thankfully, there seems to be very little gray in his life. He has an occasional meltdown when he gets overwhelmed but his parents are very good with him and he snaps right back. It is strange to watch them. When other kids played with blocks, he lined them up in rows which had to be perfect with all the pictures facing the same way. They definitely think differently than the rest of us. Thank You! I know you understand what I’m saying.
