Crossing rivers to distant shores
Warm waters seep from reservoirs
Standing midstream, caught up in the motion
I close my eyes to hear the ocean
Willing waves to turn the tide
To nurture seeds of flowers denied
Still waters pooled around my feet
Stir memories of something sweet.

If You Should Fall

If You Should Fall
When you were just a baby
I’d try to anticipate your every move
Following you around with arms outstretched
Always ready to catch you
If you should fall
Then you were a toddler
Quietly investigating your world
And I would throw a soft blanket
Or a fluffy pillow your way
To soften the blow
If you should fall
Now that you are grown

A Christmas Wish

I hope your world is filled with light
Like a fiddle, you are fit
And if you’re in the dark, I pray
A candle will be lit
Merry Christmas!
Memories

Remember them well
each line in their face
each word from their mouth
each trait leaves a trace
Remember them well
every kind word that’s spoken
the laughter you’ve shared
every detail’s a token
Remember them well
all the love they have given
untold pleasures of sharing
precious moments called living
For no one who’s lived, ever truly dies
In those hearts that have them memorized
A Mouse in my House

A Mouse In My House
A little mouse is in my house
Though quietly he creeps
I feel his presence, sense his being
Something short of truly seeing
But now and then he squeaks.
I have a plan, called ‘Have-A-Heart’
It’s most humane, I know
But should I catch this little guy
As elusively he wanders by
I’d lack the heart to let him go.

Lost, like the sea
without the waves
Unprepared, like the chief
without the braves
Empty, as bellies
without ample food
Alone is the fowl
without her brood.

Suddenly Silent

Suddenly Silent
Trails stretch on before me
I wander through the silence
Sounds of leaves caressing trees
replacing those of violence.
Ground gives perfect camouflage
To hide a basking snake
I savor each last summer breeze
That autumn soon will take.
Summer sun and growing shade
Combine for day’s perfection
Crossing bridges crudely made
to capture its reflection.

When demons plague you
Draw that sword
And offer up a just reward
You’ll never rectify their blindness
So kill them softly
With acts of kindness.
