the fire’s out and all is dark
there is no ember, coal or spark
to generate the heat that filled the space
i kick the ashes now and then
and hope what was will be again
but know that it can never be replaced
and so i leave you as i came
no closer to immortal fame
but closer to my heart than most have been
I sense you’ve found your summer bliss
and left behind that dark abyss
the stone has seen the light – good bye, my friend.

I love this one.
This one leaves me a bit speechless. Heartfelt and real. and oh so melancholy. I miss him, too. Well spoken.
Oh…. my…. this one calls for a huge, deep, cleansing breath.
It’s wonderful… and sad.
shirley,
so gently sad and beautiful at once. thank you.

The memories and love shall remain. Such a bittersweet, beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys. Bob holds a ‘forever’ space in my heart as do many other friends. Although many of my poems may seem to pertain to him keep in mind that they also may not.
