Behind the scenes, who would we find
Behind the screens we hide behind
Are you for real or just pretend
Who are you my virtual friend?
We share our sorrows and our joys
Our secret thoughts, manipulative ploys
With words, we give a voice to dreams
While safely hidden behind the scenes.
A world apart, yet side by side
We curse injustice far and wide
While each of us explore with care
How much of ‘us’ we choose to share.
This world, where faces are unknown
Where hearts and minds are on their own
Untarnished by who we ‘think’ we see
Well cloaked in anonymity.
Your image evolves with each stroke of your pen
Who are you, my virtual friend?

Hi Dan, I agree. I think the luxury of remaining anonymous is a safety shield for a lot of people who wouldn’t be able to write honestly and openly otherwise. Thanks!

Shirley, great piece! Many people who are not particularly social find courage at the keyboard.

Hi Bob, it’s probably the Ripple that’s causing the problem in the first place..haha. Thanks!

Yes Jo, I think you’re right. Especially if you read on a regular basis and read between the lines. Thanks.

I’m still trying to figure out what to use to take away the sting that pizza burns leave on the roof of my mouth… I didn’t admit it until now, but I tried tile grout and antiseptic spray. Both tasted awful, but neither seemed to put out the fire. Truthfully, after I tried the antiseptic spray, I had to chug a quart of Ripple to get my teeth to stop aching.
I’m afraid to delve too much deeper into my inner sanctums… what you see is pretty much what you get. But, if that changes, I’ll try to give you some notice.

Oh, I love this. Don’t you think behind-the-screen friends reveal more of themselves than they realize?

Hi Harry, thanks. Now if I can just get my computer to stop misfiring I’ll be all set!
And Oz, even if we’re the best you’ve got, we love you! I think pretend friends are in your head…we’re in the computer…got it? Big difference huh? Thanks, my friend.

Awesome, Shirley. All of my friends, that is to say the only friends I have are virtual…
oh wait
I mean imaginary.
Kinda the same thing, right?

So cool, Shirley… This hits rather close to home for me. When you hit both personal and universal it’s using all the pistons. Well done – a fan

Excellent.
I specially like the double imagery of hiding behind screens.
