The paper and the boxes, empty now
Replaced by smiling faces, saying “Wow”
It’s over for another year, the charm
I’m basking in the afterglow, and calm.
The candles made their magic, now they’re gone
We wake to peace and quiet, with the dawn
But how I wish that someone, small in frame
Had woke me with that yell, “Get up! He came!”

Simple and sweet. While I enjoy a quiet Christmas morning with just me and my wife, it cannot compare with a room full of kids (and it only takes one kid to fill a room).

Thanks Jo! I actually wrote this on Christmas morning. My daughter called to say that my granddaughter woke her up at 1 am and wanted to open her presents. It brought back memories of those days when she had us up at 4 am to see if Santa had been here yet! I still miss those days I guess.

Nicely done Shirley. Pehaps someday I’ll miss being awakened early; 5:30 a.m. this year. I had supposed a 15 & 12 year old would cherish their sleep, but I’ll enjoy it while I can. I hope you enjoy a Merry Christmas

Yes, before we know it we’ll be rushing around again. We celebrate on Christmas Eve now so our kids can be home on Christmas morning…I just miss getting up to all the excitement they can generate! Hope you’re having a good Christmas!

December 26th may possibly be the most reviled day of the year for Christmas-lovers. But, there are less than 350 days until you get to start over again. 🙂
