The spider and I walk together
on a shared yet separate path
both forever yielding
for the other one to pass.
Side by side we travel
the spider and the sparrow
he on his path, me on mine
we walk the straight and narrow.

Well, the last two comments are like icing on the cake for me on this poem.

Hey Emilio, that’s the point… exactly! We can live side by side and share this great big world with all creatures great and small. You just need to do the side-step once in awhile rather than walking on anything that’s in your path. Nice to hear from you! You are very perceptive.

I loved this one Shirley. Today as I sat on the porch, I saw a praying mantis…slowly making its way across the bottom step. I was eating a cheese sandwich. I tossed it a small piece of cheese. It stopped to look at the small chunk, then reached out with both arms and grabbed it. For a moment we both sat there eating. It was a nice feeling to share a meal, silently with another creature. For that brief instant , we were both connected…or so it seemed. Thank you for you beautiful poem.

Thanks, Jo A. I don’t think we have many poisonous spiders in New England…I just don’t like anything that has more legs than I have crawling on me!
Hey Bubba, glad you like! It’s so good to see you ‘out and about’!

I heard the brown spiders have a vicious bite. Sent quite a few folks to the hospital around here! So I make sure to get rid of them, when they are in my house! My OP cat likes to kill them too! Your poem reminds me of the turtle and the hare! Two different characters the spider and the sparrow. A nice imagination you have Shirley!

Sounds like it! I go out of my way to get along with them unless they invade my space!

This reminds me I wrote a poem two or three weeks ago about spiders and me, about yielding but without the word yielding, I think I used fortune telling in it. Good poem. – Donald
