And if the world should end for me today
Tomorrow would arrive just like before
Unchanged in such a small and minor way
That I would wonder “what was I here for?”
As war and peace continue on at odds
My presence never stopping fatal blows
As hungry children worship faulty Gods
Believing this is just the way life goes
A sadness now has settled in my heart
And failure is an option I embrace
As suddenly I realize my part
Amounts to nothing more than wasted space.
As every day grows more and more the same
It seems that I find less and less to blame.

this speaks to me all too well
iften get pissed at the world
for being as it is
and in the same moment
have understanding of how and why it got here
Embrace the impermanence of being
After life it is our greatest asset

These are very beautiful lines, but I think the poem is unfinished.

Hi Matt, This sonnet allows me only 14 lines written in iambic pentameter. I challenge you to write a sonnet of your own that includes what you think I’ve left out. I would be interested in reading it! Thanks for your comments here as well as on FB. I do appreciate it.

Shirley, your writing has touched me. I often have felt that I have just wasted space. We all in some way or another have influenced others. Your support has been part of the reason I continue to write. I’m sure through your contribution and hard work , that others feel the same way. I wish the best for you and all the good people at Wordcatalyst this Christmas, and in the coming New year.
